Getting to Know You...

Well I feel like I got to know a lot of people better this weekend and got to know the city a lot better this weekend as well. Pretty good weekend on the whole, definitely good just to chill after having a stressful week of midterms. Fun times. On Saturday I went to a car rally with my church young adults who joined up with some of the older church members. We ran around the city in cars and took pictures of various items that we had to identify. It was a good time. Our team may or may not have taken some pictures of pictures obtained off of a cell phone...but it was fun and good to meet some of the older adults that we don't usually have the chance or the will to get to know. So it was a good opportunity to open those doors for that purpose. And I got to talk to people I don't normally talk to or hang out with so that was good. Somewhat awkwardish but good. I do like talking to different people; it just broadens your perspective so much.
So ya. Then today I had a bit of an adventure trying to find a certain Lutheran church that I get to check out for an assignment for a class. Unfortunately I got off a stop or 2 too soon and by the time I figured I couldn't find the church the service had already started. So then I determined to just go to my own church from there (the church was in the Northwest and my church is in the Southeast...) ya it took a full 2 hours on transit. Fun times. But I did make it to my church on time and discovered where the other church was in the process so now I know where to go for next week....Then got to hang out with some friends after church having lunch and fellowship pretty much all afternoon. It was a good time. Got to know some people better. So ya. It was just a good weekend of fellowship and hanging out and very little homework accomplishment...:(
That means that for the next while, I get to become a homework hermit...woohoo!

Getting to know all about you

Getting to hope you like me

Why am I listening to Christmas music this early? I have no idea...Christmas music in July and December sure, but preferably not the rest of the year. It gets overplayed in December and then ignored for the rest of the year. Makes sense considering the lyrics are more seasonal, but still. October is too early to be listening to Christmas music. And yet that's what's been playing in my head in the last couple days...arg. I blame choir...since we always start learning Christmas stuff in October and sometimes even in September. Arg...

Saturday Adventuring

I was talking with a friend tonight and we were just venting about how it's so crazy to live and have everything bought brand new. Specifically in regards to clothes. Wandering around the mall tonight somewhat looking for various articles of clothing and coming to the conclusion that everything that we saw that we thought we wanted/needed was almost ridiculously overpriced. Particularly in the city, it's pretty noticeable and easy to get caught up in having the latest trends and having those trends bought new. Another friend of mine worked at Value Village and I had the pleasure of shopping with her in the summer and going through some of the things to look for when shopping for second hand items. And contrary to popular belief not all second hand items are terrible. A lot of them are really good quality. And no I am not saying it is wrong to buy something brand new. I'm just saying it is not always necessary to buy everything new and that we should check our attitudes when we go shopping for those new items we think we need. So ya. Oh and we both ended up not getting the items we were actually looking for tonight though I think it was because we couldn't find them for a decent price or in a particular style...

In other news I went paintballing today. And came out with no welts. yay? I kinda wanted a welt just to have a battle scar of some kind. Oh well. I did get a couple red marks though. It was fun.

Speak O Lord

Speak O Lord as we come to you
To receive the food of your Holy Word
Take your truth plant it deep in us
Shape and fashion us in your likeness
That the light of Christ might be seen today
In our acts of love and our deeds of faith
Speak O Lord and fulfill in us
All your purposes for your glory

Teach us Lord full obedience
Holy reverence, true humility
Test our thoughts and our attitudes
In the radiance of your purity
Cause our faith to rise cause our eyes to see
Your majestic love and authority
Words of power that can never fail
Let their truth prevail over unbelief

Speak O Lord and renew our minds
Help us grasp the heights of your plans for us
Truths unchanged from the dawn of time
That will echo down through eternity
And by grace we'll stand on your promises
And by faith we'll walk as you walk with us
Speak O Lord til your church is built
And the earth is filled with your glory

~Keith Getty

We get to sing these beautiful lyrics in choir this year. Definitely one of my favorites...at least for this semester...you should check out the song on youtube or something...:)
