Chocolate, hearts and teddy bears
So Valentine's Day...In my old wizened age I have begun to notice the different ways that people celebrate this holiday. Couples-go out for a romantic candlelit (optional) dinner at some nice restaurant, where they then exchange cute sweet gifts with each other, usually including chocolate of some sort, then to watch a cute sappy Valentinesish movie. (At least that is my version of what couples do on this day...since I don't fall under this category I get to make it up...)Single guys-sit in a basement with other single guys and play nintendo (the old school version with Mario and Donkey Kong) and they might eat some food(NOTE: does not apply to all single guys...) Single girls-get together with other single girls to watch sappy chick flicks and eat chocolate and talk and discuss purity and the whole courtship vs. dating thing. (NOTE: does not apply to all single girls...)Yup. That is what I have observed as of late. I've also noticed that whether one falls into the singles area or the couples, there's a need or desire to be complete, to be able to share this day with a significant other. I've felt it myself at times. It tends to make life less enjoyable when there's a desperate need to have someone else in my life, makes me discontented with being who God made me to be. I read the Love Chapter in 1 Corinthians 13 last night in my devos. A part of it goes like this "Love is patient, love is kind, it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud, it is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love never fails." Isn't that amazing? Even though I've read the passage before, it struck me again as so odd and different from today's culture of what love is. So ya. Those are my thoughts for today. I should really try and blog more often eh...seeing as how I actually have a blog....
