Lent

So last week was the start of Lent. A period of time before Easter beginning on Ash Wednesday and ending at Easter. Basically (as I understand it) Lent is about giving something up for that time period with the intention of focusing your attention on preparing for the events of Easter. Anyway. I've only participated in Lent once in the past as it was not a regular practice in the church I grew up in and to be honest didn't really know anything about until I came out here. So I guess the point isn't really about Lent. When you give something up for Lent (or other type of fast really)you replace it with something else. The question is, what are you replacing it with? Are you replacing the time spent with that one thing you gave up with something godly/fulfilling/edifying or with something that will continue to waste your time? To be honest, it's an area I struggle with. The replacing-with-something-good idea that is. I have a bad habit of wasting time and procrastinating on things that need to get done (but the nice thing about such habits is that they don't change the shape only the form and you can keep working on them and getting better over time with some intentional practice). So ya. That's just the main question that I was talking about with my roommate the other day. In giving something up, what are we replacing that something with?

Just something to think about.

Melt me away so only you remain
